Good Use of Your Tax $$$s

Government operates much like communism: there is no incentive for employees to work hard, innovate, or serve its customers (taxpayers). Of course there are many good government services such as senior security (a.k.a. Medicare and "social security" in the U.S.), social security (police, fire, military), consumer protection (FDA, EPA, etc.), and environmental protection (NPS, various state and local agencies). Regardless of where the money is allocated within the government--whether federal, state, or local--it can never be used as efficiently as in the private sector (of course many government services would never be provided by the private sector where there's no profit to be made).

Having said/written that, today I found a great way to use taxpayers' money: Wi-Fi hotspots in "under-developed" neighborhoods not being served by the private sector (for ex.: cafes with free Wi-Fi). This really made my day and in this case it's a local government: the City of Seattle.
